Ravens sweep the Haskell Indian Nations University Indians

The Benedictine College Ravens softball team swept the visiting Haskell Indian Nations University on Monday.

The Ravens earned two decisive victories by the final scores of 4-0 and 3-1 against the Indians. The Ravens moved their overall record to 5-1, with their only loss coming to Concordia University (NE).

The Ravens were led in game one by an outstanding showing by their freshman pitcher Jenna Drish. Drish gave up just three hits, which occurred in the first two innings. She then retired 18 batters in a row, with nine outs via strikeout.

“I really didn’t think about it much during the game, I just focused on every batter one at a time. But it was really exciting and a great accomplishment so early in the season,” Drish said.

The Ravens’ first baseman Halley Rindom sent a ball over the wall as well in the win. But the hitting didn’t stop there for the Ravens. Senior catcher Madison Zaccardo went 2-4 on the day between the two games and had four RBIs, three in the first game and the last coming in game two.

“At the end of the day, anything I can do for my team is always a great day. I know I can always trust my team to do their job and it makes mine a whole lot easier. It’s always an amazing feeling,” Zaccardo said.

The Ravens will continue on with their season with two more non-conference series this weekend. First, the Northwestern College Red Raiders and then Morningside College Mustangs.
